Finding a board game that works well with two players as well as a bigger group is a challenge. So many games that are rated for a large number of players are only great with a large group. Fast Flip by BlueOrange says its perfect for 2-8 players, does it fall into the same trap? Keep reading to find out!

Full disclosure, our version is Fast Flip Pizza. For review purposes, they are the same game with different card art, but Fast Flip Pizza has a little smaller card size. Fast Flip is a game that strives to make counting, number recognition, and processing speed fun, and it does a nice job of that! There is a lot of similarities to Spot it! (read our full review of Spot it!), but adds a counting element as a twist.

How to Play
Fast Flip starts with all the cards in a pile and all the players gathered around. To start the game, one player flips over the top card. On the back of that card will be a number, or an individual food item. If it’s a number, players race to identify the food item that appears that many times on the newly revealed card atop the pile. If it is a food item, players race to count how many times that food item appears, and shout out the number.
The first person to shout out the food item or number correctly collects the card, flipping it over to reveal a new top card and start a new round. Players race through the deck, and at the end, whoever collected the most cards wins!
Fast Flip gameplay is…fast, for lack of a better word. There are no turns and no real break between cards. This is great if kids minds tend to wander during slower games. If you space off during fast flip you are quickly snapped back to attention as your opponents scoop up cards! Fast Flip is also one of the few games we’ve played that is really great with any number of players from two all the way up the maximum of eight that the game allows for. In theory you could even add more players, but it may be a challenge to crowd everyone around the relatively small cards in that scenario.
This style of ‘race to claim the card’ games are always packed with learning opportunities for kids. Fast Flip is no exception to that. Kids will learn to count from one through five and learn to recognize the numbers one through five. For the youngest kids to slightly older gamers Fast Flip is a great tool to help develop attention span, processing speed, and staying calm under pressure.
The speed of this game is where it really shines as a fun teaching tool. It fits really nicely to burn some energy on a rainy day, or fill a fifteen minute window when the kids are excited for something upcoming and bouncing off the walls. The focus required for the game has a really nice calming effect when the kids are stir crazy!
What We Love
There’s a lot to love in Fast Flip. The metal game case and fast gameplay, makes it a perfect travel board game to throw in your car or purse and save the day when the kids need a little entertainment. For the youngest gamers it works great to just hand them a card and ask them to count a certain item, with some down time.
What We’d Change
The one thing I disliked with the gameplay in Fast Flip, is processing speed usually gives adults an advantage. This game is geared at kids learning to count and recognize number, but since its dependent on processing speed I had to hold back while playing with our youngest and let her stay competitive. As an overly competitive person, this always feels kind of dirty. We still had a lot of fun with the game but I wish the game laid out a way for new counters to be given a natural advantage.
Fast Flip is a neat little game. It won’t blow your mind by any means, but it is a great tool to do some stealth learning with your kids and have fun while working on a bunch of important skills!
A reminder of our rating scale:
- 1 die = Skip this game, not worth your time!
- 2 dice = May be fun for a few plays, but we think there are better options out there.
- 3 dice = Great game that we really enjoyed and played a lot.
- 4 dice = One of our favorites for this age range, definitely check it out!
- 5 dice = In our opinion this is the best game for this age range, you have to try it!
So how does Fast Flip stack up? 3.5 dice! We get a lot of enjoyment from this game. I wouldn’t call it a must own by any means, but at a price point around $10 it is a great value that your family will surely enjoy!
